Emerging from the same London folk revival scene that birthed acts like Mumford & Sons and Noah & The Whale, singer/songwriter Laura Marling released her debut album, Alas I Cannot Swim, in 2008. That album, plus her second and third, were nominated for a Mercury Prize, a testament to Marling's bewitching and idiosyncratic talents. Her songs are tempestuous, acoustic-guitar-driven odes alive with rich imagery. Banjos, backing vocals and percussion all make appearances, but the star of the show is Marling's lustrous, evocative vocals.
